Welcome to EIOS
Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) is a critical element of most businesses, yet often ignored as a strategic capability, receiving executive attention only when there is a failure that impacts business processes.
Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) is a critical element of most businesses, yet often ignored as a strategic capability, receiving executive attention only when there is a failure that impacts business processes. Changing this requires I&O leaders to expand their thinking from a technology-centered focus to one where their plans and decisions are aligned with business strategies and contribute to business outcomes.
I want to enable Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations leaders to turnaround the perception that I&O is a back office function with limited connection to achieving top level business goals.
I’m publishing Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations Strategies to connect with other I&O leaders to share ideas that facilitate:
- expanding the impact of I&O on business results
- positioning I&O as a strategic contributor
- helping I&O leaders get recognition for the work that they and their teams do
The scope of enterprise I&O is both broad and deep. Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations Strategies will focus on the technical, business, and leadership topics that are important for success as an I&O leader. Common themes throughout EIOS will be I&O strategy as a framework for decision making, and considering business outcomes as a 1st-order element when planning I&O initiatives.
I’ve been involved in enterprise I&O for thirty years, building and managing critical infrastructure systems for global organizations, then working as head of product for enterprise software vendors that served the I&O market. In that time, the role of I&O has shifted from managing IT equipment to providing the technology foundation for enterprise business capabilities.
I am a pragmatist by nature, preferring practical and proven solutions over elegant or hypothetical proposals that haven't been successfully implemented at enterprise scale. In particular, while I am intrigued by the capabilities available from AI tools, I believe that it will take considerable time for AI-based solutions to fulfill the reliability and resilience requirements for enterprise I&O platforms.
In addition to sharing my ideas here at Enterprise I&O Strategies, I co-host the Enterprise Automation Excellence podcast with Dan Twing of Enterprise Management Associates, discussing how automation leaders can get more out of their technology investments.
